The Community House by Erik Sand, Technische Leraren Opleiding Bouwkunde
There are important developments in the population of the Netherlands. The percentage of elderly people (65+) has significantly increased in the last few years. It is expected that this will only grow further in the future. As opposed to the growing elderly population, the percentage of young people is reducing. This problem has many consequences: the rising costs of healthcare, the lack of occupancy, but also the feeling of isolation that many elderly people are dealing with.

All these consequences made me think about a solution to try to solve these problems. With my technical background, which is specialized in construction work, I was thinking of a solution which is in my field. I came up with the next idea: Create payable houses for elderly people by using the dormitory principle.

Instead of placing people in big and expensive retirement homes, I see a change in using existing houses by making them livable for a small group of elderly people. Let me introduce you: the Community House.
