From Method to Skills, door Tim Munneke, Maatschappelijk Werk en Dienstverlening

For almost 6 years I’ve worked in different kinds of care facilities, facilities where I worked with teenagers with severe behavioural problems to facilities where I worked with mentally en physically disabled people.

Every facility where I worked has their own method or their own way of thinking on how they have to see different types of problems. In basis that isn’t wrong, to help people you have to define the problem before you can help them with it. But after a while I really saw the downside of this.
How to see the problem and how to work with it became protocolized, a lot of people I saw where so convinced of their method, that they had the answer to the problem because their method said so.
The effect of this all was that clients didn’t get what they needed because the people who should have fit their needs didn’t. For example, a 17 year old girl with a depression lived in a treatment centre, the method of this day centre was: ‘’competentie gericht werken’’. The method says if she learns a specific set of skills her depression would go away, so that’s what we did but her depression wouldn’t go away, her depression became worse and after a few months she became 18 and moved out.
If this problem had another approach we could’ve helped her better.

So, in a nutshell, because of the methods we make a blind spot for ourselves, I want to create a new way of education to solve this problem.

Uit het Financiƫle Labyrinth, door Marlene Hulzebos, Financial Services Management

There is  a lot of news lately about different problems that older people have to deal with. A lot of them have to do with the challenges of this century. Often this news is about financial stuff. I know from experience that a lot of older people are having problems to deal with financial issues. The negative impacts can be large. Many of them are struggling to come around. They can end in nasty debt problems.
I would like to help the elderly with these financial issues.

To do so, I would like to approach the ABN AMRO Foundation and ask them to help me with this idea. The Foundation finances a lot of community projects.

Talent Agency door MariĆ«lle Booijink

I will develop an employment agency for special educated children in the age of 14 to 18. Special education is for children who have difficulties with learning or who cannot communicate well, but also children with behavioural and emotional disorders, physical disabilities and developmental disorders. Actually they are very talented in their own ways. I want to use these talents in their future part time job. Some children are very social and can talk very well. A part time job in a shop as seller would be good for them. Also there are children who are very shy and have difficulties with learning, but they are very accurate. These children can do things as cleaning by a butcher, because over there it has to be very clean.

Nowadays it is hard for these young people to find a part time job, because they are different from other children. For me everybody is the same, so I want the same opportunities for these children than for ‘normal’ children. After the start-up of the employment agency every young person in the age of 14 to 18 with some disabilities who wanted a job, will have a part time job.

Code Life door Leon Huzen, Informatica

CodeLife is a new way of developing software, using a new model and is supported by a platform to support the social means of the model. It utilizes the advantages of both open and closed source software. Currently there is not development method between those two forms of software development. CodeLife creates a gap between these two forms. If a current closed source project would switch to this new model they would attract people with new ideas, extending the functionality or usability of the product. If an open source project switched to this way of writing it’s software they could generate income and build upon that with investors.
